In this episode of “Parts Unknown,” dream team Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert head to the French Alps. Naturally, given Bourdain’s predilection for torturing Ripert, massive amounts of food were consumed. By conservative estimates, 99.9 percent of that food was cheese. As Bourdain said, “Normal humans do not usually follow multiple wads of oozing cheese melted over potatoes with a molten pot of more cheese. But we are no ordinary men; we are titans, we are centurions of dairy products.” While you may not be able to head to the Alps any time soon, you can use this super-simple recipe from Ripert to get in on the melty cheese action.

Ingredients:

(serves 4-6)

12 ounce wheel of Camembert Cheese
1 Gala apple, cut into thick slices
½ Baguette, ¾ inch slices toasted

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove all of the wrapping from the Camembert cheese and place into a small oven safe dish with high sides. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is warm and has a liquid like consistency. Remove from oven, trim off the top layer of rind, and serve immediately with the fresh apple slices and toasted pieces of baguette.
